Default h7 hid kit in projectors

hi guys,
have just purchased an H7 HID kit to fit in my projectors; the h7 HID burner does not have the flange locking tabs i.e. the same as my H7 halogen bulb holder; the HID burner appears to need the old style bulb retaining clip; do these fit the back of the projector, and if so where do I get them??

regards

You need the HID bayonet adapter plate. You can get these on eBay I think. These are the sort of thing, though this particular one may be for a different burner.

I have a xenon kit too and it came with both H7 and H7R burners both with the locking tabs. I'll be using the H7R's cos I'm keeping the original headlamp housing so if you want to try my H7 burners you're welcome. I'm in Mirfield about 37 million miles away BTW.

One thing I have noticed is that the plastic housing around the burners needs tidying up and probably rubbing down a bit to fit in the holders, which, I'm hoping, is why I couldn't get them housed properly last weekend (back of hand still recovering)

Hi Ron,

Just to confirm that I've been playing with my Rover again this morning and have now fitted the H7R burners that came with my kit and they fit no probs...well other than the infamous access issues of the 75

The only thing I noticed, having struggled to no avail last weekend, was that the plastic housing on the burners was a little rough at the edges (unlike the metal housing of the halogen bulbs). I felt that they weren't seating properly so I took the time to sand these down a little this time before fitting.

The H7 burners I also have with the kit are of no use to me because I'm using the original Rover headlamp reflector unit (hence the 'H7R' burners). So, if you want my H7's (knowing that they fit) all you need do is pick them up...apparently they don't survive the post very well.

I can always meet you half way...say Brighouse or somewhere providing I've not been on the juice

The difference between the H7's and the H7R's? All I noticed was a small piece of tungsten on the H7R's which I assume is some sort of heat shield for the side light bulbs but I'm guessing here. It could be something totally different.

PS have you seen the how-to on the club website to help fitting them? The velcrose idea to fit the ballast works a treat!

The cover part on the H7R's are to stop glare from them in a reflector light, hence the "R" for reflector use.

hi keith,
thanks for the help; the hids are now fitted and working.

thanks TCut,
i purchased the adaptor plates from E-Bay; when they arrived I compared them to the H7 bulb holder and realised that the locking flange on the H7 bulb holder was exactly the same and could have been detached and used!! we live and learn!!

could these adaptor plates be used when people lose the spring clips??

regards

Hi Ron,

Pleased you got the xenons fitted...hows the back of your hand...mine's still recovering! I don't think the backing plates would be any good with no spring clip, but they may be useful for other bulbs/burners if they're detachable.

Pity we didn't notice that at the time

Can you give me the addy of the garage you were telling me about near Brighouse/Northowram please? I've forgotten the name and the contact might be useful one day!
