auto clay has destroyed my bonnet

just tried some bilt hamber clay on my bonnet i cleaned the car first then sprayed the bonnet with copious amounts of water whilst using the clay there was no contamination and i did not drop the clay how can this happen???

i am gutted

Hi Mark - what exactly has happened ? Is it scratched ?

You may have just cleaned out what was already filling any scratches/chips.

I thought my car was pretty clean when I bought it. I decided to wash it and clay it the other week. I had never clayed it before. After I had finished, the paintwork was beautifully smooth and clean but it had also cleaned the years of polish/wax out of the stone chips too. These weren't visible before.

Looking at Meguires on line site I think that Steve may be right. If you are sure that there was no contamination it seems that the claying might have revealed pre- existing scratches. I am wondering if a mopping may help.

whats mopping glyn? it looks like its been cleaned with a brillo pad at the moment you can feel some scratches under your nail

Sorry to here this Mark, mopping is a bit like T Cut, various grades polished vigorously over the paint work to a smooth finish.
