If all you do with your car is drive around town its easy, don't buy a modern diesel.
Nor buy a 4x4 - not called Chelsea tractors for nothing. I live next to a junior school. When we moved here 22 years ago most cars were Fiestas, Corsas etc. Now most of the cars are German and Japanese 4x4's with the occasional Volvo and Range Rover. Most only come a mile or so, in the winter they pull up still with ice and misted screens,,,,

"Range Rover has said they will repair the car for free for me, but what they don't understand is that the car isn't registered in the UK so I have to pay £25 per day for parking, £11.50 in congestion tax and hire a car. This in total costs me £1000 so it isn't free."

Life's hard isn't it he could try being a bit diplomatic seeing as that is his occupation.

Talk about a waste of money. Some people won't earn £70,000 in the next ten years in this country, and quite possibly in their entire working lives in India.

Catch a bus instead, see how you get on with that.

I simply don't get the reasoning/mentality behind buying a modern diesel for "the school run" or similar .

Did the sales team ask any sort of questions about what/how the car was going to be used? Perhaps he could sue them for selling him a product unfit for purpose .

I guess the handbook/owners manual is pretty specific about what the driver/owner needs to do to avoid the DPF problems. And it sounds like the dealer told him what he needed to do and has offered to put it right? So if the owner/driver fails to follow the instructions then - erm - bad luck.

It's not always someone else's fault .

Or am I missing something here

Andy.

Nope, unless you are hammering up and down motorways everyday there is no need for a diesel nowadays. If you have one already then fair enough but fffs have a think now before you buy another one!

He should team up with Ms Busby from Maidenhead.

Many colleagues have had issues with the land rover brand over the last few years. All technical bits and bobs.
Which have frustrated the owners. I personally would steer clear of the this brand.

The DPF issue is well documented so don't buy a modern diesel if you are doing short trips. I do think the dealers could do more here and point this out.

I also think dealers take the urine so good on the owner for fighting but in this instance it may not be all LR fault

You ask if you are missing something? Haven’t you noticed how thick some people are about buying cars? Do you really think they have the intelligence to read the car instructions book? The problem is, they also drive in the same mode............idiotic.

This guy doesn't appear to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

So how did he end up as a diplomat?

Maybe he got the job because of somebody he knew rather than by his own ability.

Within his peer group he would appear uniquely well qualified.
