With Ging coming from the far east we eat a lot of rice. We don't use Basmati rice, its too hard, we always use Thai Jasmine rice. We have an idiot proof rice cooker, removes any guesswork! There's a measuring scoop for the rice, "X" scoops of rice, the water level for "X" scoops of rice is marked on the side, add water to the appropriate level, lid on, switch on that's it. Cooks the rice, switches itself off then cycles on/off to keep it hot.

Before cooking the rice wash it to remove some of the starch, I use a sieve, scoop of rice into the sieve, run water through it under the tap til the water runs clear then into the cooker.

Been red hot here most of the day, clouding over a bit now, forecast for thunder and rain tomorrow.

Pah, bloomin technology takes all the fun out of it, I mean how do you get by without cleaning the cooker when it boils over, or eating hard rice, or adding sugar and milk to make rice pudding when you've overcooked it

My mother used to make a cracking rice pudding in the oven. Made one one night, my father and I sitting waiting, spoon in hand, ready to fight over the crispy skin . . . . what came out of the oven was a dish full of hot sweet milk with sultanas floating around in it, my mother forgot to put rice in it

I’d rather your visitor Freddie than the one we had in the house on Monday, a poisonous sac spider. It’s venom is cytotoxic and nasty.
