75 V8 exhaust query
Can anyone point me to some pics or schematics showing the undercar exhaust layout for the 75 v8 (54 plate)?
I ask cos mine has apparently lost a rubber retaining bracket of some kind off a crossmember support (I think it may have broken off a couple of weeks back, on going over a rather aggressive road hump), but the garage I'm using don't seem to be getting any agreement from their Rover source as to what the fitting should look like. The data sheet they've been given (as the standard fitting) shows a different pipe configuration from the one on my car. Not having viewed the underside of the car, I'm unsure exactly where this bracket/crossmember is, but believe it's towards the front (ie under the front seats area). Sorry for the non-technical explanation, but I'm just about capable of filling it with petrol (and have to do that much too often)! And, assuming I can determine what it should be, any pointers towards a source for the part would also be welcome! |

Are you a member of two-sixties as that is the best place for that kind of question if not I will ask on there for you? Do you have a rattle now or has the exhaust dropped or something? |

I have applied to join the two-sixties forum; waiting for the mod to accept and post me a link to confirm.
Apparently the exhaust is undamaged, but it is sounding even more "throaty". The explanation I was given for this is that it may be vibrating against the floorpan on occasion. I can't recall which way round it was, but the Rover source sent the garage a diagram that showed either two pipes where there is only one, or one where there is two (sorry!). It was obviously enough wrong for the garage (who are performance car specialists) to spot immediately it was wrong, but they were told in reply "that's the factory fitted configuration we've sent you", so at present I'm a bit stymied. I bought it from a car supermarket a year ago, after it had done 6500 miles, it originally came from Phoenix so I'd assumed it was a standard factory spec car, but reading some of the other threads, I'm getting a bit more concerned....... I've got to take it back to have an air filter fitted, so will get some more info and maybe be able to take some photos of the area at that time. |

There are differences between the ZT and 75 V8 exhausts the 75 has an additional centre box so they may have sent ZT info by mistake
As for the air filter this lives in Thors hammer low down so it is worth considering fitting a K&N filter as these are good for 50,000 miles so effectively fit and forget this is where it goes I have bought one and will fit it the same time as I replace the damaged wheel arch liner, fit a proper horn and fit stainless steel mesh in my bumper K&N part is E-0945 |

Thanks, Keith. I've faxed this thread to the garage. Hope it helps them. I take it from your comment that the weedy horn was a standard fit item! How easy/difficult is it to change to something more intimidating?
