I agree, but the reality of it is that the original one is on the wrong side of the engine as far as we are concerned , the cost of a new thermostat isn't the issue as they are relatively cheap - its the work involved to replace it that gives most people the problem.

Its getting there but certainly better than it was.
I am glad to read that Vossy as mine reads 29.4 round town at an average speed of 31.4 on the trip computer. I do have an OBD scan reader with a trip comp built in. I will try it and see if there is a difference. I have also just got hold of a manual and didn't realise that you have to select different gear ranges for different driving conditions. I will see if it makes any difference.
It's all a learning curve isn't it?

Unless I am in a playful mood I just leave it in normal drive mode, when I was out yesterday the car shows 26.4 but in all honesty I have stopped looking at it now I know that she is doing mid 30's.
I still am confident she can do better and once I change the thermostat I'm sure the figures will show it.
