Red face Oil Pump Failure or HGF or ?.......

OK Guys, the plot thickens... (Follow on from previous post ref: Low oil Pressure)

My 75 is now back on my driveway. It starts as it should, sounds at should, then after a minute a rotational clacking (LOUD) noise begins, no overheating issues, coolant clear of oil etc. Low on oil and mayonnaise present under oil filler cap, exhaust emissions as they should be eg clear of any gasses.
OBC reports oil pressure low when the pump gets noisy and seems to stall on the belt or something similar, then engine aside from the mayo? appears and runs fine, tappets noisy?

The pump looks a nightmare to get to? Was going to just remove and complete an engine swap however I have today tried (with the help of a very helpful forum member who has assisted me today with the above diagnosis) my ECU on his ZT190 and it would turn over but not fire, so for me to upgrade engine size, I would have to change the loom as well as ECU's keys etc etc.

Now thinking need to get to the pump and turn by hand, then look at cost of replacing pump if it has indeed failed, or change the engine for another 2.0 KV6 to make the repairs for now swifter and cheaper.

Anybody on here any experience with sourcing and changing oil pumps? Just looking for any advice and feedback as always Gents, sorry to be a constatnt drain on the forum tech resources, but as I'm learning a fair bit along the way, I may just be equipped to help other fledgling newbies in the future

you can change the engine, just keep your harness and ecu etc thats on the car now,its a fairly straightforward job.theres no guarantee that low oil pressure hasnt already damaged the engine internally so replacing the pump may only prolong the demise.

Lioyd, don't know if its any good to you but still sat at the bottom of my brive is my old 2.5 lump that started running on 5 cyls, Obviously I need to keep the top end spares coilpacks injectors etc. The rest you are welcome to, no knocks or anything, presume the oil pump is there and intact. let me know if you want anything

Hi Stocktake,
Thats fantastic, many thanks for that. I'm removing the front end as I type in an attempt to get access to the pump to turn by hand. Hopefully will know by tonight if its the cause of problems, shall let you know then, as I could drive over to you in an hour I'm guessing and pay and collect?

Thanks again, very much appreciated.

Nopainnogain - Thanks for the feedback Buddy, OK that's good news re: ECU and harness etc., and yes I have to agree that the running of the car with low oil pressure may have caused substantial damage, I wont really know until further in I guess, crossing my fingers. Thanks again.
Lloyd

Well I've checked my post, still cannot see anywhere it says "pay". it just says your welcome to it lloyd. .

You can take what you want from the bottom end, as I say i will want to keep the coilpacks injectors, sensors etc. Not taken them off yet, hence if you come over you will have to take off what you want FREE

LOL, your right there, I just considered your valued and most kind gesture to be deserving of some form of remuneration? At the very least allow me to buy you a pack of your stipulated beer or a bottle of vino?

In all seriousness thanks again Dave, I shall be in touch and confirm the status of my pump and whether I'm planning an imminent road trip over to you (it should be just the oil pump I shall require).

BR,
Lloyd

Evening Gents,

Well what a night, 50% of the cars engine has now been removed.
Its HGF, mayo everywhere, every pipe, took the head off and metal filings and bits of all shapes and sizes all over the place, spark plugs filled with oil, oh dear oh dear.
Its not the oil pump after all, replacement engine time The search shall commence tomorrow.

Night all,

Lloyd
