THE TRAIN NOW STANDING;-
At the platform of the recently renovated Bassenthwaite Lake Station on the long closed Cockermouth - Keswick section of the Workington - Penrith Railway is the Locomotive & three Wagons Lits Coaches used in the latest film 'Murder on the Orient Express' with Kenneth Branagh & Johnny Depp. The old Station House in the foreground together with the Station Buildings were abandoned & left to fall into disrepair after the workington - Keswick section of the line was closed in 1966 to make use of the trackbed for the then new A66 Trunckroad. The section of line from Keswick - Penrith remained until, following many protests, was closed in 1972. Bassenthwaite Lake Station House & Buildings have recently been very tastefully renovated with cafe & gift shop in the old booking hall & waiting room, with the coaches forming the restaurant & lounge.

The morning mist hangs like a net curtain over the Southern half of a very atmospheric Derwentwater, slowly beginning to clear from the Northern end on the 4th February 2022.

Moody shots over Derwentwater taken later on the same day as above views on the 4th February 2022 after the mist had lifted, the cloud effect creating gorgeous lighting & colour on the fells along with some lovely silhouetting on the trees, even the three little ducks were posing for this shot in the third pic.

Following on from above, even more atmospheric heavier rain clouds gather over Derwentwater, taken from the same location later the same day 11th February 2022, with the sunlight between the clouds casting a lovely glow on the water.

Lovely to hear from you, Jan & I hope you are both keeping well, you will certainly be enjoying better weather conditions than we are having at this time, as may be depicted in some of my recent pics. Many thanks for your very kind comments they are sincerely appreciated, I tend to take many of my pics from around this area which is ideal for the subject of which I seem to have chosen for myself 'ie' Sunsets, Cloud effects etc which can change so rapidly you never seem to get to get two days alike, which makes [for me] at least for some very interesting shots. I will certainly endeavor to try to keep posting pics with a mixture of what you very kindly have mentioned above, in the meantime we look forward to seeing more of your pics & posts, keep up the good work, many thanks once again, take care of yourselves Jan & I can't wait for the time we may all be able to meet up again. Best Wishes.....John & Jan.

Just had to capture this very atmospheric cloud effect, was fascinated by the dappled effect centre, but it was the single tree [foreground] that played the pivotal role in this shot, highlighted from the bright light centre, contrasted by the silhouetted mountain skyline, so took a shot from left, centre & right 15th February 2022.

Some of the local residents awaiting a late afternoon feeding from the Tourists on the 17th February 2022 before the setting sun goes down.
The last pic of the setting sun peeking through the clouds was caught by surprise as I looked over my shoulder on my way back to the car.

It's back to the West Coast at Whitehaven after the storms with white horses on the sea & with scaffolding & sheeting covering the two old lighthouses on the Piers undergoing renovation, with a wintry looking sunset forming a back-lit sky & golden reflections on the foreground wet sand 18th February 2022.
