I honestly think these two words sum up the whole notion of modifying a NA for negilable performance gains.

Genuine question: When driving, under what circumstances do you find yourself wishing you had more power? I tend to find the 190 sufficient for most real world situations, so long as I'm in the right gear.
Filter and exhaust will make a car sound nice though.. even if there is only a small improvment in performance from an naturally aspirated engine.

The sound depends on the engine though.. But I'm sure the V6 sounds nice with these changes. That is afterall, one of the reasons for owning a gas guzzler, isnt it? Its about the 'experiance' as a whole while driving the thing.. which for me and most people will only be on the odd occation. (unless of course you are flush with plenty of spare fuel tokens )

My 5 cylinder audi quattro for example is full of beautiful sounds.. And it's always going to drink the fuel like a fish, so... it might as well sound nice while doing it? right?

Anything over 200hp and your starting to get into piston skirt issues.

first time i've seen this mentioned..

so if I managed to get 205 ish bhp out of the 190, the engine is going to be damaged?

I'm sure I've seen a few of the ZS180 owners with cams and manifolds and exhaust and breathing mods.. and they were making over 200bhp.

The thing is, I had £1500 burning a hold in my pocket, and with my new job I don't really need a car as my Wife drops me off at work, but I wanted an fast estate, as my Vauxhall adam struggles when I go to B&Q!

So after buying it, selling the spares that came with it. I have about £400 left witch will cover the remap, and the change can be spent on a tank of V power.....Already have iridium plugs when I serviced it last month.

Thanks again, remap it is, I will post the results!

Hi I have been following this with ongoing surprise. If I am following this correctly you are saying that the remap is costing £320. This seems very expensive, it is diesels I drive and has been since the 600 series came out. My towing car has a remap, and is very useful whilst towing. Otherwise I am of the opinion that it is not necessary.
In your petrol engine I see no need for the remap, a lot of money for little gain. I don't see you using the car on the track and the standard power output is more than capable of getting you to speeds that would result in losing your driving licence. Keep your money and put it in an account for car maintenance, it will go a long way for the annual MOT for the next couple of years.
Best wishes and happy driving from an old Rover Driver

Piston skirt failure is very common on the supercharged engines at around 220, just throwing it out there as something to be aware of, you should be fine at 200 - 210 area but remember any decent mileage on your engine and you may start to see issues once the power is increased.

Well, thanks of all the opinions, but sadly I am not good at listening!

So in May its booked in for a remap, its £320 for the remap with before and after rolling road power runs.

I will let you know the results.

On a similar topic, could I buy by below and do my own remap, who hard can it be??

Was the engine damage a result of more power? Or was it a result of forced induction?

I seem to also remember one zs180 owner with a super charged sprintex car who had modified the setup (possibly better fueling control, better engine management) and he was making more than 220bhp reliably and without issue.

It was my feeling that the original production zt220 supercharged cars were unreliable simply because the use of the charger was poorly executed at the time and required far more thought and consideration to make it work properly.

Although.. It has been a while since I last heard anything of those supercharged ZS180's. So I've no idea if they are still going strong or have exploded into a million pieces by now..

I also will be looking forward to seeing your results.

Do keep us posted. Also, any pics of your car and it's mods?

I love to see what I'm reading about.

I've had two v6s with remaps, my old trophy yellow 160, and my current celestial 190. It's definitely more than just peak power gains!
It's much stronger low down now, and pulls hard all the way through the rev range to the redline. It pulls away from standstill with much more urgency, and has much better overtaking capabilities. It also added around 5mpg to my economy!
It's definitely not as much of an increase as you'd get on a turbo engine, but it is well worth doing!
