My mechanic noticed mine was a bit noisy and warned me to get it changed asap.

So next day I made the 4 mile trip to his garage and the pulley separated with an awfull screech as I came into the yard!!

Does that sound like the pulley? Ive ordered one anyway, it cant hurt to change it.

I think they reused my old pulley, so it may not have liked being moved.
I think you're imagining it, you were spoiled for a week

Garage tried getting pulley bolt out today. Tried an air wrench and a breaker bar with a tube over it. They said they had locked the flywheel solidly but they could not move the bolt. They have soaked it in WD40 and will try again in the morning. They have also ordered a bottle of 'special' penetrating oil that should arrive tomorrow.

Well mine doesnt sound anything like as bad as the one in the video, but it sounds like a very mild version of it, so i guess it might just be starting. Its a very regular tap, not really a rattle, with extra diesel noise.

Its only slight, but the old engine wasnt like it at all. Its not coming from the top of the engine or the gearbox end and its not the injectors. Not sure what else it could be really, the only other things in that area are the chain and the high pressure pump.

If you want to go with the OEM, don't forget that adding an 'L' to the part number will give you the identical Land Rover part at lower cost.

Default Second Update

First garage gave up. Second garage managed to get bolt out by heating bolt by induction then remove with electric impact wrench.

resurrecting an old thread I know but

we had a look at what we thought was a failed crank pulley today and arnt sure - we have a ticking noise on lift off and its varies with revs - the crank pulley only appears to have a very thin rubber in the center of the 2 metals on the front (i havent removed it ) that looks sound - is there more rubber on the rear ?

Spray water on the pulley when running Carl, if the noise goes away its the pulley thats at fault
