Mine has a crack in it, along the bottom, rather than across it. It looks like the wheel has a slight negative camber. Can this be welded?

Don't think it will pass the MOT with a welded upper arm. Best to replace it.

Ha ha - I never could, despite repeated attempts with various British Leyland products back in the day!

I got the arm replaced and the droplink. The part where the droplink is attached to the arm was rusted through and snapped off. Very bad rust

Just to add to this. Car drives tighter now. Was sloppy before and there were noises and vibration when braking but not anymore.

All related to the broken rear wishbone and droplink

It has its lovely supple ride back again

I have a set of arms sorted and I'm going to have a look and see if the inner bolt will move, but for about how much did the garage charge to fit it?

I was charged 100 euros to fit one arm, one droplink and a couple of unrelated niggly things

Yep, that time has finally come for one of my 75's. Bluebelle is 17 years old and I decided it was time for new front springs and new shocks and new rear springs and rear shocks as she was really showing her age. An expensive enough outlay as I am not mechanically minded so had to drop her into the garage that does my work and uses genuine MGRover parts.

Picked up the hire car and awaited news on what should have been a day or two's job at worst... Then the phone call came and both upper rear arms were rusted and in need of replacement and the bolt on at least one side had sheared off. So the cost went up considerably and became 6 days with the weekend included.

On the plus side, I am really looking forward to the ride after all is done as my other 75 has already been almost fully sorted and the difference is night and day

According to MOT regs it is allowed, if the original construction is welded then a welded repair is permitted.

But as Mike says it's best to replace them, as there's usually not enough good metal to weld to
