Rear tweeters not working..?

My 2001 Connie had rear tweeters. It wasn't an HK car, just Highline. Find a car in a scrappy and put the front tweeters into your rears.

So... My next question is, what size speakers and tweeters fit the back doors ? (also what size fronts too)

As I think I'm going to upgrade them to some pioneers or something.

I fitted a Harmen Kardon system to my 75. The Harman tweeters are definitely superior to the standard, but they have their own covers, one cover was missing but I did manage to adapt the old standard cover to fit, needs filing down to make it fit. The sub-woofer was easy to fit, it just bolts under the parcel shelf from the boot, but the speakers needed to be upgraded as the old ones were not so good, as sub-woofer speaker technology has moved on since the originals were produced!

Aren't the HK speakers an odd impedance and can therefore only be run on the HK amp (or at least an amp capable of running the impedance of the speakers).

I've not worked with HK kit previously but have done enough with BOSE factory amplified setups and they typically run 2 or 3ohm impedance where a 'normal' speaker is typically 4ohm.

You can fit any tweeters you like, if you cut some silicone hose down to length, and select a piece which I/D is the same as the O/D of your chosen tweeter, then hot glue it in place behind the hole for the tweeter. Push the tweeter in and wire it up to the crossover.

Mine have been in there for years like that. Still in place and working perfectly even when I've removed the door cards.

The Amp I own in the A6 is capable of running as low as 2 ohm speakers in bridged mode.

cheers.. what's the size of the main speakers in the doors though?

I'm going to buy some pioneer component speakers and replace the whole set up. But I still want them hidden behind the standard door covers, for a factory look.

6.5" for the woofer from memory.

For the woofers, I used the existing holes in the plastic mountings, along with some m6 dome head screws and M6 nylon spacers cut to the correct length, with some large washers and nuts to secure it, clamping the woofer in to the plastic mount..

Then just fit the speaker mounting to the door as per normal.



The nylon spacers are under the large washers, cut to the same depth as the rim off the woofer. Make sure you use some Loctite or spring washers as the vibrations from the speaker can shake them loose otherwise.


I even fitted some single-sided foam tape into the slot to act as a gasket ensuring the woofer has an air tightseal:
