I'm going to strip a 3 speed on Monday. Let you know how I get on.
But with Keith's 50/50 chance of ruining it, doesn't look good from where I'm standing

I would still like to think the brushes are generic rather than bespoke.

I think the answer has to lie in the iriginal manufacturers, Siemens. It is almost inevitable that the brushes will be 'generic', and probably in use in several of their small motors.

It might be worth bombarding Siemens with questions
I did not get any answer myself they have some form of on-line ask a question type system maybe I never got past their spam filter!
Trouble is Siemens is a big outfit so the trick will be to find the correct recipient, but I would be very surprised if the motor was an MGR specific item and I would expect it could be bought as a motor only for fitting to existing control box.

Hmm...........just realised I have a contact in Siemens, though in their communications/phone systems division. I can ask them to get me a contact - what should I ask for?

Mike I was going for the whole motor as that should be the most easily identifiable thing. Iif they can break a query down to brushes afterwards then fine but for most owners the motor on its own for attaching to the existing control box would be the most sensible purchase. The three speed motor in the KV6 and CDT has 772-65430-01 on them, as they also say Siemens Canada that is where I was trying to make contact but without any joy.

I wonder if the big boys are persuing the supply of "Motor only." for a reasonable price, after all 99% of the time we don't need the control box or the wiring loom or the cowling

Rimmer Bros
SMC
MG Owners club
etc.

Over to you boys??

would be interesting to see if our china member (seem to remember seeing someone post from HK) can find out part prices over there too. I wonder if anyone can get a look under a bonnet?

If they are using cheaper local manufacture, it cant actually be a lot worse than what we have at the moment!

I would have thought Kenlowe offer a suitable aftermarket replacement, and going by their reputation I would expect it to be more reliable.

Yes I looked at the option of Kenlowe fan kits 2 months back but they are still over £200!
Just re looked at their Web site and it's still under construction by the look of it.
Only a few links work.

I've sent them an email to see what demand they've had.

Prob worth it for an individual to make all the necessary changes, but for me commercially I need parts that pop straight in.

Has anyone looked into whether these motors were taken from BMW's parts bin? Being Siemens' ones it would seem highly likely that it's probably a fairly easily available Beemer part... anyone fancy asking a BMW dealer or parts specialist?

(doesn't this tie in to the other thread about what 75 parts are used on other BMWs/LRs/Rovers?)
