BCU backup battery ?
I have been told today that the reason my BCU becomes a gibbering idiot every time I disconnect the battery is that there will be an internal backup battery , which must have died .
I have never heard of this before . Can anyone confirm if there is an internal battery in the BCU ?

There's a battery in the BBUS, but not, as far as I'm aware, in the BCU

There isn't a back up battery in the BCU
The information is written in to the flash memory and should remain there without any problem. Sounds like there's a problem with the BCU Russ

I guess you are right
Is a straight swap for another used BCU possible ? I assume that the keys would need recoding , and enabled options might be different , but would the car "work" from the off ? At the moment I have no central locking , my windows work on the wrong buttons and I have no aircon but other than that the car works ok
