Default Clutch Problems

This R75 i've bought really is trouble......... The clutch on this car has never felt right, despite the fact that the previous owner has had the DMF changed 10k miles ago, and a new clutch kit, slave cylinder and master cylinder fitted in the last 500 miles! Today, the biting point was all over the place, and gears were hard to select. I'm guessing the slave cylinder has failed already. What do you all think? The pedal also feels really spongey.

Same problem developed on my Tourer (110 k miles) which I bought a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a slight fluid weep at the clutch master cylinder; At first I suspected major clutch / DMF problems but when I just couldn't select a gear I found the fluid was empty. I have a new one ready to change along with replacing the clutch and slave (just in case)

Keeping the problem at bay until I have time to change it all by topping up the master cyl every couple of weeks. What a STUPID location for that master cyl !!! Using a plastic pipette to add a teaspoonful at a time once I have struggled with getting to it and got the cap off - no other way I can see. Sure does exercise the Anglo-Saxon vocabulary !

For interest I am replacing the DMF with a solid flywheel and will report back when done

It turns out the master cylinder (new supposedly!) is leaking badly. There's fluid all over the footwell! I think it's a combination of a poor quality part, and very bad fitment. In the mean time, I have ordered a Tazu replacement, and I'll tackle the job myself this weekend.

Out of interest, is there anything to fear with the Tazu replacement parts? They seem better quality than most I have seen, but I have seen reports of seal failure on earlier production runs.

Do you know what brand was fitted?

Where is it leaking from?

Is it at the pipe? Is the plastic cap on tight?

You'll get plenty of differing opinions on the Tazu stuff but I found it be OK.

Do you know what brand was fitted?

There was a duff batch of slave cylinders a while back where no / insufficient grease was applied.

The mk2 tazu master was a disaster and pulled from production.

I think I'm right in saying that the tazu stuff has been adopted by xpart???

Check out dmgrs site.

Clutch operation has been restored, thanks to a Tazu replacement master cylinder! It wasn't as bad a job as I had anticipated thankfully. One side effect of the kit seems to be a noticably heavier clutch over an OEM part, presumably due to the narrow bore of the copper pipe supplied with it. If anyone else is tackling this job, then please be aware of it.
