Default Hospital parking charges petition

Just had an email today about the latest FairfuelUK petition, that aims to get the government debate the reduction or scrappage of hospital car parking charges.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/219650%20

I've signed it in the hope something may happen

Signed too. Disgraceful charging for sickness/treatment/family help etc, it all goes to a parking company not the NHS anyway. And what's charging staff to park all about ????

My youngest son worked in one of the Oxford Hospitals for 8 months as an orderly, nearly 15% of his wages went on parking at the hospital .

Eventually his boss managed to get him an exemption when she realised how much it was costing him but it is still disgraceful.

I took a friend in to get his leg replasterd and because we were a couple of mins longer than the 2 hours it cost me £8.40 instead of £3.45. I felt like I had bought the plaster.

I believe that in Wales and Scotland , hospital parking charges have been scrapped (someone please correct me if I am wrong). If this is true, it should be same across the UK.

I think the hospitals do get some of the money from the parking, with the parking company taking their cut.

Not all hospitals in Scotland, some have parking provided under private finance initiatives which would have proved costly to buy out. Patients, visitors and staff still have to pay through the nose at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Ninewells at Dundee and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The problem in the case of Edinburgh is they are centralising all hospital services at the Royal Infirmary complex closing other hospitals as they do so.

Signed too, I have to go to a couple of local hospitals multiple times on bi-weekly basis with my elderly parents.
