OK, did you buy your brushes from European Carbon Products?
What about the condition of the commutator? Was it scored and/or black?

This wasn’t my experience I have to say. Provided that the driver is vigilant and notices that the fan is running at fast speed when it shouldn’t be, and preferably checks the coolant temperature to verify this, then a brush repair using ECP parts will be successful. My commutator wasn’t damaged and my fan is still ok some 40,000 miles after my repair.

Yes was the motor bolts securing to the Cowling,Yes i Brought the Brushes from the ECP company and yes the Commutator looked quite scored .
Least i tried,Never mind

Yes; some people modify and some like to keep their cars original. I have modified cars in my time and it doesn’t come without disadvantages and sometimes unforeseen problems. In my view, new brushes are the best solution in terms of originality and price when fitted on a DIY basis.

Absolutely Julian; you didn’t lose much money and you have learnt more about how your car works. That is something of which to be proud. It doesn’t take any skill to throw something away and pay for a new one!

I hope you use your ears and brain to detect the damage the overdue a change engine oil does to the main bearings too

My engine oil changes are not overdue. None of my cars has ever suffered damaged main bearings.

If anyone in this club needs to use their ears and brain Brian, it is you.

So Simon, do you cover 15000 miles per year, or is it 5000 miles per year and an oil change every three

You look after the oil and the bearings look after themselves, you do not however change oil on a mileage basis alone, you change it annually.

Time and time again you have proven yourself to be failing to maintain your own car correctly, so perhaps you should change your avatar title to "doesn't do things by halves, does things by thirds instead"

There was a considerable amount of time and effort put into the research carried out by Jules into sourcing a reliable replacement for the quite frankly rubbish three speed fan.

This is called ongoing research and development, something you fail to grasp at any level it would appear

Most owners do not wish to spend a day pulling their car apart, dismantling the motor, then after paying over £20 for a set of carbon brushes, find the commutator is badly worn then have to put it all back together, only to repeat the job later.

What you fail to see through your blinkered perspective is simple, if you have you car repaired by a third party, that third party must be able to warrant the job they carry out to be reliable.

This normally precludes bodging a clapped out old motor together with new components in the hope that it will "be okay"

Of course that doesn't apply to you though does it? with your superior mechanical aptitude, and of course your unquestionably magnificent clairvoyant abilities

If it's the whole assembly presumably with control box and resistor (2 speed) yes it will fit.

Resistor will almost certainly be open circuit (so low speed won't work!)

You will need to upgrade the silver resistor to the higher wattage gold type I supply.........

If you've bought another used 4 wire motor the low speed will almost certainly be duff. (we've never ever seen a second hand one of these actually work!)

In which case you'll need this kit instead........

Good luck
