[QUOTE=hst125;2641465]Hi all
I’ve just had catastrophic fuel explosion under the bonnet! Had the car serviced just last week and after a bit of hard throttle off the motorway smelled fuel. Pulled up at home and a high pressure leak from the front of the filter. Diesel EVERYWHERE !!!!

Looks like the white plastic clip has failed but I’ve googled it to death and can’t source one? Any help please????[/QUOTE

HI Mick.
I have a couple of those fuel hoses in the shed somewhere, I will take a look later or tomorrow morning, you are referring to the fuel hose next to the electric connection yes.

1

The one with the T joint in this photo yes, so you need just the short piece.

2

Just been down to the shed these are my spares, is this the hose below, if so I am sure Mickyboy would be able to ship one of these to you fairly quickly, drop him a PM.

Hi arctic and thanks for your reply
It’s the top elbow next to the electric plug, it seems that the seal has gone on the white plastic clip. I took the rear input off and the clip on that one seals nicely, the outlet one is sloppy. I don’t think there’s any damage to any of the black plastic or pipes.
Seeing as it would have been taken off last week I think my mech missed the weakening of it, I’ve done 250 miles since the service, only blew after I’d had a bit of a decoke on the dual carriageway!
Gawd knows how I’m going to clean the engine bay it’s swimming in Texaco’s finest heavy oil...

Hi Mick.
You will need to wipe the engine over with old rags first, the get some cheap paint brushes make your self a container up of washing powder mixed with luke warm water, any cheap stuff will do work that that in with the brushes, wipe again with old rags keep clear of the electric items, check your alternator first to see if it as been coated in diesel if so if can damage it, what a nightmare

I would use a product called GUNK. It’s a degreaser. I have used it in the past, still got some in the shed. Use a paint brush to apply it and then use water to get it off. Simple. I would cover the alternator up with a plastic bag first before using it.

Update
Cannot source clips from anywhere - Main Dealer (LR), Rovertune, Rimmers all day its NLA.
Looking at bypassing filter with aftermarket one and retain old filter sealed to provide signal to ecu.
Can’t see any other way at the moment, reluctant to go scrappy as none locally and frying pan into fire....

HI Mick.
Personally I think it was damage when the service was undertaken, and a used one from a trader on here (Mickyboy ) will do the job as I have never heard of this happening before, I have also removed and fitted this pipe and its clip loads of times.

Thumbs up

Thank you all sincerely for your help and support. The used parts arrived today, cup of tea then followed the OP’s guide on the filter.
Low and behold

It wasn’t anything to do with Rover fuel lines

It appears it was definitely the mech’s fault

Any guesses?

How about the filter wasn’t in properly and the o-ring had blown out, but in such a place that it looked exactly like it was coming out of the front pipe coupling. When there is Derv shooting out at many many psi you can’t exactly look closely whilst it’s doing it!
But all’s well that ends well, seems the diesel tidal wave mainly went out underneath, not too much found when I removed the engine cover. I was really gutted by all this because I kinda getting attached to my conty and I’ve been enduring train travel whilst it’s been laid up.
I think I can now justify a trip to Halford’s and get us a DAB!!!
Thanks again guys

Hi Steve,

How very convenient, I presume you mean restoring the original photos.

I've just been browsing this post because I know next to nothing about diesels, and I've just bought a Tourer CDTi.

Hence I'm swatting up.

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike.
Yes i am trying to restore nearly all my how to because of Photo Bucket stealing them hope fully they will help you.

Will you be servicing the diesel your self, if so go slowly and you will soon see they are not that hard to deal with.

I would recommend a manifold clean, EGR clean, and MAP sensor clean, then a full service all filters including the PCV filter which is most important.
