Default #Rant at parents with youbng children

why oh why don't parents teach their children to cross the road properly?
today I heard a woman yell at her child to stop. I turned to see this boy half way across the road. No traffic was coming.

He had gone into the road half way between the bends of an "S" bend. About 25 yards in each direction to the bend.

Chikd comes back to pavement and child given a dressing down. So parents with children go to cross the road but traffic is coming so they move.

They move to one of the bends of the "S" bend, now totally blind to what is coming over their right shoulder if more then 5 yards away.

do they tell the boy to look both ways? No, Do they say all clear? no.
they lead the boy across.

brilliant just brilliant. this lad has not been taught to look for traffic but to just walk across the road....... wait a moment.... that's what he did in the first place

gggggrrrrrrr for blue word sakes teach your children to cross safely. If there is a pedestrian crossing or pedestrian lights 100 yards down the road, walk to the blue word thing.

rant over

Crossing doesn't have to be 100 yards away. I've seen "adults" crossing the road with children within a few yards of lights. Basically teaching a child its ok to cross a busy where ever they want to.

What annoys me is when Mums with children in a pushchair just turn rapidly and thrust the pushchair half into the road before checking that its clear.

They are normally busy chatting to their mate, totally oblivious to whats going on around them and the poor child gets put at risk.

And.. when they let kids run loose at the side of the road!

Exclamation

This why we have to have so many speed humps in residential areas and 20mph zones as it seems road sense is not taught to many children by their parents or schools. No Green Cross Code or even "stop at the kerb, look right, left and right again and only cross when no cars are coming". Obviously drivers should be aware for children and drive within the speed limit, but children should be taught about road safety, it's seriously lacking these days by some adults as well. Rant over!

It amazes me just how many adults are not quite capable of crossing a road, let alone kids😮.a few times ive had adults walk half way across the road before they decide to look both ways.😕

Only this morning - a family crossed on the zig-zag’s of a zebra crossing
Teaching their kids how to use a crossing properly obviously not high on their priority list.

The other thing that has happened to me twice recently is pedestrians with earphones in - either listening to music or on the phone walking off the pavement without looking.

Recently I saw a schoolgirl making her way, at an angle towards the kerb from the pavement with her back to traffic using my carriageway.
I knew she just wasn't going to stop, and she didn't, just walked out onto the road without looking.
Having reduced my speed to a crawl anticipating her actions, I drew up behind her, and gave a quick toot on the horn.
Boy, did she jump !! She had absolutely no idea I was there.
I hope she has learnt how to cross roads properly now.
