Default Having few problems

I recently bought a 04 plate 75 club 1.8 petrol. I have found that my rpm seems to be very low when idling but when im driving it seems high. As i reach any speed over 60mph my rpm is 3000 which i think is too high. I am apprehensive of going any faster in case i do any damage to engine. I have also had engine management light come on couple times now, flashes for maybe 10 secs then goes off again. I have a few other minor issues but i think i have them sussed out. Any advice would be much appreciated

Hello Barry,

I have moved your thread to the technical help forum, where you will get more replies.

Idle, should be around 650 rpm, (on the gauge)

Is your car manual or automatic?
If manual, the rpm sounds about right at 60mph. At 70mph, about 3300rpm?

You won't damage it by revving it up to 3000 rpm.
Just keep the revs down as best you can until it has thoroughly warmed up. Perhaps 15 minutes driving, or so.

Flashing engine light: Does the engine run smoothly? Does it ever feel like it is misfiring?

Hi Barry. I can't think of any fault (bar a slipping clutch ) that would affect rpm at speed.....

My 1.8 in the coop free revs up to 6000 so unless clutch is slipping don't worry about it.

Default Engine speed

Surely, unless the clutch is slipping, engine speed to road speed is determined by gearbox/final drive ratio?
