Nice looking car and a very nice engine
Keith before you go and have a look at it have you read the last line of his ad ? "no dreamers,no boy racers(unless you have the cash) and no kicking my tyres, serious offers only" counts you out |

That's a lot of cash for what is essentially a converted 1985 2.6, I bet his insurance company loved him  I have been down that road, and must admit i would be tempted as well, but at that price (and i expect it to go higher) you are really paying for the engine mods, and as I mentioned you would have to get it put on a specialist/modified insurance policy, a bog standard classic insurance policy would not do for that thing.
And then the paint... god knows you would need a garage to park it, and could you just imagine leaving that in a supermarket car park Its a lovely looking thing, but I shall continue my search for another V8 automatic (its a bug you know.. once bitten...)

I would just turn up in a proper V8 and put his worries to rest!
The auction has ended btw At the moment I am looking at other options I want a Triumph Stag one day I just thought that was a very interesting looking SD1 but yes I agree insurance would be a pain. it is still registered as Manufacturer ROVER Model 2600 VANDEN PLAS Body type 5 DOOR HATCHBACK Colour BLACK Fuel type PETROL Date manufactured 30 December 1984 Number of previous owners 6 |

SD1 on E-bay
Looks a nice car Keith but to have one Rover might seem normal , Two a little odd but four............I had one of these new in '80 standard 3.5 manual in Persian blue , very fond memories I also had three Triumph 2000's in the '70's I often think the '75 reminds me of these , what do you think ?

I had an Auto Triumph 2000 mk2 then I went a bit silly and converted it to manual with overdrive just to see if I could!
A feature common to all Triumphs was the segmented warning display which was great in the dark and useless any other time |

The SD1s were good looking cars and that one is something a little bit special. The only downside is that it's still got the awful SD1 dash which over the years I have tried very hard to like but just can't.
I would go as far as to say that I could live with the inherrant electrical problems suffered by most SD1s and even accept that the headlining is likely to fall in my lap whilst driving (another SD1 common fault) but I could not live with that dash. |

wot one? the early mark 1 "pod" or the later mark 2 "bigger pod" I have to say though, in all my years and many models of SD1 ownership I never once had a a car with a saggy headcloth.. none of the dashboards warped, everything worked (except for one fuel pump failure) and overall apart from a nasty case of rust on one V8 they were always reliable and started first time. Ok, yes they did get pampered mechanically, (serviced when due, worn parts replaced with genuine bits) but none of them had a garage to stay in, and i used them as daily drivers (the V8's only when i had enough spare cash to fuel them) I am still on the look out for another, but the bad backs and the sore joints mean it will be an automatic VP for me... my boy racer days are over well... sort of

I had a 3500. Gorgeous it was. R reg.
Not much liking that one though, silly paint job. But then I'm boring like that. |
