Default Bank Phone Scammers

Some low life rang my 96 year old mum and saying that two amounts of £300 and £1000 had been withdrawn from her account. Luckily, she has all her chairs still at home and said that she was busy and would ring the bank back later after she had discussed it with her son (me). The line then went dead. The clincher was that they just said that they were "the bank" (not which one) and didn't ask for her by name, just started jabbering on. I've looked it up online and they sometimes find out which bank you are with and once they have that detail, they give you the first four digits of your card number (to "verify" that they are "genuine"!). All card numbers from the same bank start with the same four numbers it seems, so not difficult to work out! I wish that I could get hold of them! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Never speak with anyone who initiates a phone call on finance - and well done to your Mum. Mine, who died aged 99 used to pretend to be deaf and keep asking them to repeat everything. They usually gave up.
