Bleep on locking
Hello,
Well I started today jacking the car up and doing a rust survey underneath the car before it starts going cold again. After finishing the check-up, and back down on 4 wheels again, I suddenly have the dreaded bleep when I came to lock the car. It has been fine before. My tourer has three trigger points for this alarm, -the bonnet lock, the main tailgate, and the tailgate window locks. I have one of these plug in fault finders. Will it show which of the three is causing the trouble? TIA GeoffWW |

If its an ordinary (non MGRover specific) fault finder it'll only show generic codes, it won't pinpoint the cause of the mislock. Take it you have tried re-shutting everything firmly, not just the bonnet, tailgate etc but all the doors as well.

If the interior lights work as they should and go out correctly pop out the bonnet switch and unplug it then try locking it if all ok its bonnet switch

Coincidentally I had the exact same problem last week. My mechanic stripped out the bonnet micro switch connector and found multiplug connector broken. he said it is usually the bonnet, but my lack of knowledge cannot confirm that he is correct.

Hello again,
Looking through the replies, your suggestion, coolguy, of the bonnet lock being the culprit, the bonnet hadn’t been unlocked at all, all day, until after 3 or 4 goes at slamming the tailgate and window, not my usual practice. stevestrat, - Thanks for your input. The normal doors are on a separate warning system to the tailgate and bonnet. A long time ago, the rear nearside door lock had a similar problem but on switching the ignition off, the instrument panel had a message indicating the door where the fault was, similar to the faulty light bulb indicator. dave lincs,- Again thanks for your input. Although I believe it can’t be the bonnet lock, I will try your suggestion first. Thanks to all, I will give all these suggestions a try tomorrow and report back. |

The bleeping is now cured. It was the main tailgate lock. Luckily, I had a spare one from when I bought a complete tailgate for the window, a few years ago.

Probably the most important posts on this forum are the posts when people take the time to come back and let everyone know the problem is solved and what it was. Thankyou.
