No luck finding a land rover part code for that item. Would need to find someone with a Rave catalogue, or whatever their equivalent is in Landrover terms. Ive found plenty of bmw diagrams referring to a bimetallic valve as well but just cant seem to narrow it down to a part number or where to buy one new.

I've found out that the Freelander name for the thermostat is "Fuel Temperature Switch", but still not found a part code.

Its not that which I refer to, it is this(Item 4):

fuel temperature switch.jpg

In some places they refer to it as the the fuel temperature switch, and in other diagrams they call it Bi-metallic valve.

David

I'd pop into your local LR dealer and get them to look it up on the Microcat

It has taken some searching, but via a Russian website with a Rimmers style parts list for the Freelander I got to an image clear enough to show that the thermostat is part of the fuel cooler also on the freelander, so has no separate part code. (I tried posting links to it, but they didn't work so search for LR Parts Russia and see how you get on)

To find one you need to search eBay for TD4 Fuel cooler, and look for one where the seller has not cut the pipes off, then you can see fairly clear photos of the thermostat. I'm not entirely sure that it is the same as ours, but it looks very similar so I have ordered one and will report back.

If this does indeed fit, it looks a lot easier to obtain from a scrap freelander than it does on our cars because of where they mounted it, they are much less likely to be leaking.

HI David.
It is a lot easier to get to than the R75 where you have to lie on your back, Freelander is in the engine bay as in pic's below but look where the fuel pump and filter are behind the rear wheel arch liner.

I think the best point about the freelander location is that at least the thermostat should be in good condition compared to mine which looks like it was buried at sea 10 years ago. We should also be able to obtain them cheaper. Looking on ebay it appears that some breakers dont know that the cooler and stat are supposed to be one unit, because in several cases they have cut the hoses off.

I hope this proves to work because the only r75 cooler currently for sale on ebay is priced £70 with £8.99 delivery.
