Gents,

Sorry, are we not getting a bit off topic again with this lets write it correct nonsense. I also had no problem understanding what had been written.

It has been covered before if I'm not mistaken. Sorry if i have spoken out of turn, but i think it was time the issue was put to bed.

The op has put on a very informative post, as has been said, in the hope that it will help some poor person out who may have been, like me, suffering with this very dangerous issue.

I for one, am very grateful for the information contained within and thanks must be said to Rob in Holland for his perseverance with the subject and coming up with a solution to it. Surprised maintenance for this was not in the service schedule, or was it and was ignored because of the time and patience needed to do the job I was convinced it was an age related thing and i suppose i was right in a round about way, taking a few years for the muck in the breather holes and pipes to accumulate.

Having spotted a ZT 190 last Wednesday with the front offside caved in, i hope that the poor guy did not suffer from this issue and was taken by surprise with it. Remember the first time it happened to me, not nice.

Dave.

I had this on my 190 a few years back, I agree it cant be the cruise because i didnt have it, but it was after a long motorway journey with not much movement on the pedal. Must be a bit more scary in an auto when you cant just clutch it and let it rev

To add to the main post re revs not dropping. I too have had this recently. At least in a manual car you have a little more control but I have also had this in warm weather, not as bad and revs would drop once braking started.
So are we talking two completely different problems or is there a connection?
There are quite a few threads re this which are not caused by freezing.

This problem isn't limited to just V6's with cruise control. I had exactly the same problem with my 190 (didn't have cruise control at the time) last weekend I forget the precise temperature, but it was well below freezing. I set out from South Oxfordshire, and got as far as the A38 near Lichfield without having to touch the accelerator. The revs had stuck at just under 4,000 for over 90 miles! Fortunately, the journey was non stop, but would have been a nightmare in heavy traffic. Only scary moment was when the lights were on red at M42/A5 roundabout, and had to slip into neutral for a second or two. The throttle became unstuck shortly afterwards, and I reached my destination normally and safely.

Ironically, I was on my way to an MG Specialist to have a cruise control kit retro fitted! Now ain't that spooky!

It's all down to breather pipes being clogged (apparently). So get yours checked ASAP. Mine have now been cleaned out while the Cruise was fitted.

There is no cruise control on mine but have had the same problem at times both winter and summer. Certainly worse in winter as I cannot reduce revs, but in the summer braking brings down the revs? Dave
