Fairly useless info.. but info, nonetheless :-)

Hmm, the plot thickens. According to posts 4 & 7 here (items 16 & 13) there were two different part numbers in the EPC in 2008 - WJK100175 and WJK100176. Which number did your 'long 5-flange' version have?

The 'short 5-flange' in my pic was bought in September 2019 so it's probably later than yours. It looks like they took a bad design (the 4-flange), improved it by adding a 5th flange (yours), then made it worse again by keeping the 5th flange but chopping the end off (mine)!

The latest ones appear to be shorter though (i.e. my 5-flange is later than Karl's 5-flange).

Just found this little treat under the back seat of my next project. Frustrating there are so many avenues for water to get inside. Completely filled with soaked silt until it rusts through. Not happy.

I found mine like that when fitting a new tank pump. I purchased a spray can of expanding foam and sprayed it up the pipe towards the wheel arch after cleaning all the crud out, waited for it to come out into wheelarch area, let it harden, then cut it back and covered it in underseal. No probs since.

Luckily my pipe is still intact and I made up a glass fibre replacement with an extended end up to and over the hole, which is completley sealed as well..

My cover from a 6 quid of glass fibre kit from toolstation

I wonder if a plastics company could make some of these using an original as a mould?

As the original is made of steel and bolted solidly to the inner arch, it tells you something about the level of impact protection that Rover felt was necessary for the fuel pipes. After all, a stone picked up at 70mph and thrown at these pipes is going to have a substantial force behind it (although that does make me wonder why they shortened the cover.... )

I personally wouldn't be too happy about a shield made of anything less tough than steel (i.e. plastic, fibreglass, etc.) especially as this area is well hidden and any damage could go unnoticed for some time.

I just laid cling film over the old one with a bit of card board bent and taped to the new extension sort of shape .

Covered it in resin and matting till ithe stuff was used up ..

I used the toolstation big boy resin kit . seems its gone up in price .

Then just carved off the edges to get a closeish shape.. bit of paint for looks and driil the holes to suit ..

I found this on mine recently, just in the process of repairing mine. I’m going to try disconnecting the breather pipes and graft in a section of plastic pipe, shaped to suit before reassembling. Hopefully this will stop any further corrosion. I found on mine that the same sealer Rover used it fit this tube in actually stopped the rust spreading to the inner wheel arch which is a consolation!!
