It is truly wonderful, to be blessed with such a forward thinking, inspirational, and genuinely-people centric government such as this, pounds and gallons!, the excitement is just all too much to contain, I myself haven't stopped grinning since I heard of it, what else would they think of next, I wonder?, maybe the workhouses, public executions, what else, what else, we could suggest all sorts of delightful things, after all those rascals across the Channel are such a bad influence on poor old Britain, but if pounds and gallons do it for some people, hell, who am I to poor cold water on such a genuinely innovative initiative, by this government, I wonder which department would be entrusted to oversee such a complex yet worthy task, I could suggest, but dare I do so?...

I say we need to get a grip before is too late, ( or is it too late)

After such a rant, I think it is probably too late for you.

It's strange, Gremlin, you are a newbie here yet it feels like I've known you for years.

We need to standardise instead of allowing a mixture of measures. I’ve also got something else stuck in my brain 39.37.

Is that "thou" (thousandths of an inch) in one mm?

I've got something in my head about one mm is roughly 40 thou.

Cheating i.e Google gives one mm as 39.37007874015748 thou. So I'll give myself a pat on the back .
