Default AC pump v6

I need a new AC pump for the 2.0 v6 I assume they were the same pump from Cowley to 2005? And same for 2.0 and 2.5? The bearings are shot in mine it works fine but sounds dreadful.

That's unusual isn't it Josh. I can't imagine any air con. specialist forgetting to add oil. Are you sure that the noise isn't an idler wheel or tensioner reacting to the increased load of the compressor?

As far as replacements go, be guided by the part number on the label of the original compressor.

That's a classic belt tension symptom. If it's your diesel, check the crankshaft pulley. If it's a V6, suspect the tensioner.

The noise is what I would call a bearing sound.... its a grumbling noise. when you turn the AC on the noise gets louder. I did the old screwdriver to the ear trick and on the ac pump vs the alternator you can hear it grumbling louder.

Yes mines is the same, bearing noise which I hear above the nice V6 hum. Aircon works Ok and I have got a replacement new compressor (bought of a member for under £100) in the shed but I'll leave it a bit down the list of work to be done.

Keep looking on ebay have seen some bargains around the 150 mark but they are usually a few hundred.

You start by getting the air con. system discharged professionally Josh, then you buy a Haynes manual and follow the procedure to remove the ancillary belt, disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines and unbolt the compressor from the engine (it's quite an involved job).

If it emerges that you are correct and the bearings have broken up you will need to flush the system to remove any debris and renew the condenser/drier.

This is why I have recommended that you do not rush into a hasty diagnosis. In addition to my earlier advice, low refrigerant charge can cause the compressor to run noisily which will cease when the system is re-gassed.
