Worked in D&G for about 6 years,& red squirrels can be seen in the forests.Very underestimated place Dumfries & Galloway, the coastline is superb

There are a pair often to be seen rising on the morning thermals, (mobbed by crows) from the `view point' at Sea View Poole. Great to see they're making such good comeback all over it seems. Mike.

It has been a very successful re-introduction of the species, stemming from their last bastion in the UK... Wales Wonderful sight of one dropping down on the road for some road kill..... causing me to brake violently to avoid hitting the bird But really they are amazing to watch. They are mobbed by crows during the nesting season as they are seen as predators, whereas they generally are carrion eaters.... but then again it could be a food niche issue as most crows are carrion feeders But then again the crows may see them as as an eagle..... and a definite threat possibility..

When we watched them at Gigrin Farm in Wales last year, the farmer put a trailer load of offal out in his field. Within 10 minutes, hundreds of crows were on it. Another 20 minutes and the crows left and about 150 red kites came in for the rest. Spectacular

Yep - but the only problem is that in a few years time they'll go the same way as the buzzard and then there'll be plans to cull them . I remember when buzzards were rare but now I can see 8-10 soaring on the thermals above my house!

Buzzards rare? They have always been around these here parts Both are protected species now, and proven not to be the killers as was thought in the 19th Century when there was a law that paid bounty on their carcasses.

The natural supply of food v. numbers will keep them in check, as it had done for 65 million years, without the need of humanity to put a spanner in the works

Wow, I bet that was worth seeing. Never seen one myself, but would have love to see one of those flying in the skies. There was one at Abingdon Air Show a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't go this year. I also used to have a model of one as a kid - airfix it was.

As for Red Kites, see them everyday in Oxfordshire.
