Help - not me again! CDTi wont start!
Similar problem to last time, went to start her last night and she just cranked and cranked and cranked. Eventually started and when I got home last night, turned her off and back on and she started immediately.
This morning, nothing, cranks, cranks, cranks but won't catch. This time however, its not the same. Easy Start is useless. Squirt it on and she catches then immediately dies. Please help! |

Checked the glowplugs?, the wire accross the top of each plug aswell? even a tiny break in this wire can cause it not to start. Remember not to overtighten the nut on the glow plug the threaded part breaks easily, just over finger tight is OK.
Hopefully cheap fix. But someone more in the know regarding MAF etc should be along soon!. |

Easy Start would bypass the glow plugs and still allow the engine to start though.

Try tapping the underbonnet pump while the engine's being cranked. Various threads on either here or .org

Camshaft sensor?
Though usually worse when hot. Switch off the Synergy, just in case.. Ron

Hi Ron,
If you remember, both of those sensores (Cam and Crank) are new! Just an update. I tapped the under bonnet fuel pump whilst cranking, still no start. I can hear fuel coming throught and can also hear it at the injectors when the pump is priming. Tapped the HP Pump with the handle of the same hammer, still didn't start so decided to try one last shot of easy start. Started First time. She's at the Diesel Specialist in Poole now that saw her back in January. Fingers crossed |

Hi there,
Yes, it will but its a fiddle on the M47 Units. In order for Easy Start to be efficient it needs to be sprayed into the EGR valve. The intake tract is too long to spray it up the filter intake. In addition, it shouldn't be used on diesels all the time as it skims the tops off of the pistons over a prolonged period of use. It should only really be used if no other method of starting the car is available. As long as fuel is being pumped to the car EasyStart will overide any electrical fault (sensors or such like) and will get the car running. I image that if you are having problems with cold starts that your glow plugs could need replacing. For Petrols, its ideal at removing water ingress around the Distributor block aiding starting |

A neighbour has a diesel ZT which has been garaged for nearly a year due to illness.
Two weeks ago to the day he had a service done and mot as it's now 3 years old (with only 5000 miles on the clock) Anyway, he's now got his licence back and thought he'd take the car out. Went to the garage, lots of turning but no combustion. Very nice AA man came out, checked for any fault codes (none present) and then did something under the bonnet (which I didn't get to see) and it started. He believed it was due to air in the fuel line possibly due to a fuel filter being changed at the service.
