Exhaust Heat Shield
I have a 21 year old 2.0 V6 Connoisseur SE which is due it’s Mot at the end of the month. On a pre check I found that the centre section of the exhaust heat shield, the one that protects the fuel tank from the exhaust is missing and I believe this would be a Mot failure.
I’ve tried various places including eBay etc to try and get hold of one but all without success. Does any member have a spare or does anyone know where I could get the heat shield material from so I could try and fabricate what I need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My car failed the MOT due to the missing fuel tank heat shield and it was classed as a dangerous fault ( it had been ripped off and thrown away by a previous garage !)
I had to crawl under a scrap 75 in a muddy scrapyard to get a replacement and I still had to repair it to fit especially where it fits to the handbrake bracket. |

I lost a heat shield on my ZT and couldn't get a new one, and couldn't find a decent replacement either. I can't remember if it was the one by the tank of the one further along, but it was missing for several years and never flagged up at Mot time. I think I saw something at the time about someone who had sourced a flat sheet of the same material and shaped it themselves as they couldn't find a replacement either.
*edit* Mine was a diesel though, don't know if that makes a difference |

It is worth keeping an eye on e-bay. I bought a very good second hand rear heat shield for my turbo diesel a few years ago and put it in the shed as a spare. Then, a few months ago, the car had an MoT and I asked them to fit it while it was there. The washers holding the original had been getting bigger and bigger.
