Default What would I do?

I would fit the right size battery, then adjust the strap to fit tightly over the top of the battery once the clamp was secured to the front.

I've never understood the fascination with fitting huge batteries, the sort of things I do electrically to the ZT when it's in "test rig" mode are far more arduous to a battery than simply driving it, and I don't have a problem with an 096

I bought the largest capacity I could find, that would properly fit in the box, with the proper clamp and strap, plus box lid in place. That, rather than the standard spec. It gave a few extra amp/hour - I wrote up the one I bought, on here, as there was slight doubt as to whether it would fit or not.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

I've had two MOT failures for insecure battery..usually after buying a car that the owner has had the battery out and not secured it properly or lost the clamps..as said even at a 30 mph crash a persons body weight becomes 4 tonnes hence the ads stating the back seat passenger with no seat belt on killed the driver..

It makes sense to secure the battery properly you can weld with a 12 volt battery..

Here you go... 1.9 Electrical Wiring and Battery.

I had a car fail an MOT due to battery being insecure.

I only got my MG last week and on cleaning and inspection at the weekend noticed that the battery strap was MIA on my car.

I had one end of a cord just stuffed down the back end of the battery and nothing up front to tie the two together. I was seemingly missing the metal clamp part.

Not wanting to leave it I needed a solution to secure my battery...

So I shamelessly pilfered my wife's guitar hero game's guitar strap as the only thing I could find which was made of the same braided strap material as the original bit I'd got dangling around my engine bay.

I secured the two ends together on the bottom of the battery plate and bolted the battery plate back in and so far seems to work like a charm.

Might sound a bit bodge but it fits perfectly, should accomodate anything small enough to fit in the battery box and was an instant free fix for me.

Where is this strap, is it inside or outside the box. I have had two replacement batteries and never noticed a strap. the lid doesn't fit properly either.

It is was unlikely you would have an accident back in the 60's, when steering columns were solid and if you crashed, they would quite likely impale you on the shaft. All of these safety improvements are there for a very good reason, they will not help you completely avoid the consequences, but can help reduce the consequential injury.

Yes but it's not the same thing. For the record I have it fitted, however if the strap wasn't able to go over the battery I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
