Misteryous misfire on cylinder 1 - ZT 190
Following up in another thread, after I installed the refurbished vis motors, I used a generic code reader and it says that there is a misfire on cylinder 1. NEw plugs, swapped coils and cables... nothing. Still the damn misfire on cylinder 1 and the code reader says it fails to read the o2 sensor... but not showing showing up as an error in the céu... could this cause the misfire on that particular cylinder?
The car had a t4 session a couple of months ago and it was all fine even though the balance VIs was faulty. Isn't a bit strange that after I put a working vis, that the fault comes up? It passed the mot on the beginning of December.

Well, it's not good news.
Did a compression test and cylinders 2 to 6 gave a reading of around 170-180, the cylinder 1 gave around 100. Poured a teaspoon of oil into it and the compression jumped to the same as the other cylinders. Question now is: Change the oil to and add an additive to help recover some compression, or sell the car? Repairing it would be expensive, I assume.

Is the engine tappety if you have a lazy lifter which isn't allowing the valve to fully close then a good oil change may help but if it's failed or burnt valve, worn rings/bores etc then oil change won't make any difference

Not tappety at all. The compression test suggests worn rings after compression went up when I put a bit of oil in te cylinder. A burnt valve would mean the same compression reason m, either wet or dry.

True then I think you already know the answer to your question oil change at best would be a temporary cure
Depending on how much you want to keep the car engine rebuild would cost considerably more than replacing the engine with one from someone like Sean Carter but a rebuilt engine would give you many years of reliable service

Thanks. I'll just run it until it goes. I have other priorities at the moment, so cars have to wait for now
