Even turned off it is worth having I don't use it at all most of the time as Swmbo uses the car and the box generates a bit too much smoke on short journets for my liking, but.

I had a 2004 BMW 320d in for some attention last night this was a later type engine with the VV Turbo and a lot more BHP than our early generation cars

Anyway took him for a drive with TU3 off and then again with it on he was very surprised at the difference up till last night he had thought Rover Diesels were slow, not now though.

Keith

Should not generate smoke if everything is OK. Have you checked the airfilter, and cleaned the PCV/ EGR valves? Also use a low MAF setting on the Synergy or try switching the MAF section OFF.

You have done the intake mod haven't you?

Just the airfilter and intake mods are done I haven't done the PCV and EGR valve yet, both on a to do list

I haven't added the boost spring mod either not sure what the verdict on that was.
Maf switch is off, don't seem to need as it just causes even more smoke

It only smokes when cold and that is why it is usually turned off the car is only doing three mile trips most days.
I turn it on for longer runs and it is fine once warmed up properly

Spring mod would not help you. As they are short trips (with the engine cold) I am sure the engine is being kept at low rpm. The spring only helps above about 2300rpm once you are at maximum boost allowing an extra 3psi boost pressure.

I would suggest the PCV as a possible reason as the EGR will tend to effect things higer in the rev range too.

The Synergy (& therefore the Tu3) are working well on the 150bhp BMW320D.

I have put the details on a new page here:

http://tuning-diesels.com/BMW/bmw.htm

I've pointed Jarle to the EGR bypass which should fit his engine as well as ours, and this, along with a decat or better exhaust, plus possible intake mod, should reduce or eliminate the smoke he was getting on setting 10.

Thank you, once again
Thank you guys!!

This morning I recieved Rover Ron's magic box for my beloved ZT CDTi, well what can I say!!!

I rushed out and fitted it whilst reading the instructions at least 10 times, to make sure I got it right and I am not technical at all!!

I have set her at 4 as per Ron's Auto setting suggestions....and wow, beautiful smooth power, no smoke, just an entirely a new feel to the vehicle, could I like this car even more?

Well, lets really push the boat out now, I will add another horn, remove and replace those speakers, exchange the Alpine multiplay CD player for an Ipod docking station....OK OK, I know, I will first enjoy the new power and then tackle those little extras, thank you everyone for your recommendations.

Steve

Glad to see your another happy Ron customer

We all told you you'd like it though Have you been following all the other recommendations and "things you should do to your diesel" threads? There are a number of tips to get even more performance out of your car. A number of these mods are simple and effective - such as cleaning out various sensors and widening the air intake. Do a quick search on these forums and you'll soon find them
