with maf unplugged wont start at all, changed mafs but still doing the same unfortunately, starting for about 5 seconds

We didn't use my pump Jim, we used a 2nd hand replacement from e-bay, so no guarantee that it's pumping to correct pressure.

bit off the wall this.......try starting it, and unplug the maf as it fires up...or, remove the maf and plug the harness back in and try and sart i.....

just noticed that when the revs get up to idle,it cuts out

The fact that it won't start at all with the maf off certainly needs a bit of thought. Is it the case that the engine usually overfuels with the maf switched off?

I'm tending to lean towards not enough air getting in as the fuel increases, hence it stalling...........

guess I,m going to be looking at all the air inlet side of things tomorrow, but feels like I,m

going to start saying the car keeps stalling, sounds better than not starting

Just a thought Make sure that the exhaust pipe is clear when we were kids we used to push a spud up the tail pipe of cars and they then refused to start it may be worth having a look
