Re the other washers (RYF000170), I don't think these are necessary on cars with the "dynamic dampers" at the bottom of the shocks, as the head of the flanged bolts are the full of the openings. These dampers were introduced sometime in 2002, I believe (as part of a Project Drive deletion of sound proofing in the rear parcel shelf) and act as a washer in and of themselves..?

I'd have thought that any stainless penny washers of near size would suit, however, if found to be absolutely necessary? I'm going to try without - looks a simple enough addition if needed later.

(see post 3 for a pic of a shock without one of these dampers at the trailing arm).

+ a couple of my own photos attached for reference..

Cheers,
Karl.
Thanks for the pics.

My dampers do have washers so they can't be 'dynamic' (odd word for MGR to use, aren't all dampers dynamic by nature ).

Edit: I just looked it up and apparently, dynamic dampers "reduce or eliminate the vibration of a harmonically excited system."

How did this work out in the end, did you clean them up and fit them to your car ?

Not yet - I'm waiting for my slot at the blasters for the new subframe & arms etc. I don't want to start taking the old parts off 'til I know the new ones will definitely be ready to go on.

Meanwhile, John's washers have cleaned up nicely and they've been half-primed - I ran out of BH Electrox (doh) and am waiting for more to arrive so I can finish them. I did try to get a brand new set of washers but that's a long story.

Then I've been sorting out the OSR jacking point (post 35). I've ground all the rust off and have given it two coats of BH Hydrate 80, which seems pretty good stuff to me. Next it'll have two coats of U-POL Z182 primer (arriving today) and then some grey stone-chip paint. Finally, the inside of the jacking point and both sills will have a generous smothering of BH Dynax S50 - assuming of course I can get the 2 chrome sill finishers and all 4 kickplates off without wrecking them.

Btw, talking of blasting, I'm not sure whether to have the new trailing arms done or not. The casting surfaces are rough finish so the existing factory paint is much better keyed and less likely to flake (like it does on the subframe). What do you think?

Btw 2, still can't decide what to do about the calipers - buy new ones or refurb the old ones. New ones are very expensive** and refurbing the old ones will add days on to the main job.

** The MGR solid ones are £303 a pair (inc vat, less surcharge, plus delivery).

Here's one of my damper washers (#11 here). It has a rim so it's like a mini subframe failsafe washer.

Damper is the original MGR (Delphi).

PS. Washer is RYF000170 (so I'm told).

The used MGR ones were ok after several coats of paint Steve. Here's one of them with a new bolt.

Default Dimensions

I just measured my four new ones with a digital caliper, the metal is 3mm thick, the centre hole is 12.5 mm, the inner area is 78mm without the curve but, if you add the curve it becomes 87mm. It gives a curve depth of 4.5mm. I reckon I can make these, and so if they're so scarce now I'll have a go, I do have new ones to refer too for accuracy. I measured all four of them and they're within a fraction of a mm against each other. I don't mind trying to knock some up and can even re-plate them!

Thanks for the heads up on the washers, i recently bought a front subframe from him, will contact him and see if he has anymore.

Nice job with the subframe, looks great.

Have just overhauled my rear suspension, as it was heavily corroded.
got the front subframe and braces already to go on, with a few coats of underseal, was hoping to get hold of 6 of the failsafe washers and get them painted up so as to save time doing them with the subframe off and the car off the road.
Have also replaced front strut assemblies and drop links.

Thanks again. Steve.
