Default Check your bulbs first

Today I was asked to look at a friends car. (not an MGR)

He had no brake lights so had checked the fuse and presumed the switch was faulty. He had replaced it but still no brake lights. He had got a second one as he presumed the replacement was also faulty. He had asked me to replace it as he had to work today and it was complete bu66er to replace.

The first thing I did was to check the bulbs and though they looked OK but none of them worked on a battery. 2 new brake light bulbs and a new strip for the high level and everything is working as it should.

My guess one bulb and possibly the strip failed since the last MOT and when the other bulb failed it became a problem.
