Default WinKFPT, NCS Expert, INPA and BMW-coding tool

Hi,
to connect my laptop (running TOAF) to my Rover, I bought a cable that came with some tools I now have on my laptop as well (at least I think they came with the link - not sure where else I could have got them). I mentioned the tools in the title; they all mention BMW when I open them. Does anyone here know these tools and is it possible to use them with the Rover, or is it unwise to start messing with this stuff?
WinKFPT for instance states it was developed for flash programming Ecu's. I can imagine it may be risky to start making changes to an Ecu, but if people have experience with it, I would be very happy to know more.
Thanks.
