Default Car Payments?

I was brought up that if you can't afford it you can't have it. Todays "yoof" seem to want their cake and eat it.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-your-money-48776454
My kids bought reasonable "older" cars until they could afford "something better"! No wonder students are complaining about loan debts if they want designer clothes, phones and cars whilst they are studying. Credit is too easy and some folks are just greedy and foolish if they think that they can have it all for nowt. We are just a few paypackets away from being homeless and in debt .................... if we are not careful. Cut your coat according to your cloth. Rant over!

Seems crazy to buy an expensive new car on such a part time student job.

Although I'm surprised the car finance company didn't run any checks at all?

I'm afraid I've zero sympathy.

Personal choice has consequences.

You chose to go out and buy something and now you can't afford to pay for it.

I guess the finance company will repossess and sell the car to recover their money and there will be no car for the student. Tuff.

Hopefully it'll be a lesson learned.

It's not always someone else's fault!

How many really good R75's could you buy for £20K?

Andy.

My heart bleeds

I knew a few of my friends kids did the same, They'd no idea what an M.O.T. was just splashed out on new cars every three years, the ones with free insurance, none of them had a "proper job" as far as I could tell.

they have both learnt an expensive lesson.
my sons two cars were £600 and £300, my daughters were I think may be £600 and £800.

apart from a mortgage and a car loan from my dad 30 years ago I don't think I have ever been in debt. The relief I felt when my mortgage was paid off was huge and I did not even know the weight was on my shoulders until it lifted.

For years both the wife and I have been, if we don't have the money we don't have it.

The decisions one makes as a youngster can have repercussions many years later

The dealers stitch people up all the time, a friends daughter signed up for a VW convertible, she gave a £900 deposit on her credit card and was told it would be £250 a month. She was either not listening or didn't notice that this was only for the first 3 months and then it was £450 a month.

She could barely afford the £250 let alone the £450, 4 months later the car was reposesed and she received a letter from the lease company saying she still needed to pay the amount for another 6 months plus the arrears ( small print)

Luckily her dad sorted it for her but she now has destroyed her credit rating just to drive around in a nice car for a few months.

Not all of them........

My son's a vet.......

They're told on day 1 that there's no chance of having a part time job, going out every night etc. etc. if they want to pass.

They still have their share of fun but it's a serious amount of work.

However, I totally agree that there are some courses/students that do seem to have a few years "holiday"

Wow so many opinions, and no sympathy at all. Was nobody ever young and made a mistake? We live in a different world now, times have changed.
