the w219, I would disagree about the pinnacle of body design, it is unfinished, perhaps the designer wasnt watching what he was doing with the bloat tool in photoshop. Or the clay room was too warm perhaps?
I would say it was the pinnacle of interior design in its day though and the AMG version The latest version w257 does look rather nice, although still not a fan of the interior. It still looks like Ikea's architect's wet dream. I was shocked at an intriguing car that passed me the other day, shocked because it was a Peugeot! The interior though .......... such a shame How about a Kia? As I approached it, I thought it was some kind of mini Maserati there has to be styling cues from a Ghilbi. I know it is not a 3 box design (most 3 box design cars nowadays arent - E30 BMW has to be one of the best) apart from the silly sticky up screen, and the obvious depreciation Currently if I was willing to buy a new car, I cant believe I am saying this, but I would be torn between a Kia and an Alfa (Guilia)

I'm not a big fan of big front grilles, and find the new Lexus is horrible

I agree about Lexus. Horrible. As are all far eastern designs because the designers seem to think that just adding sharp edged blobs everywhere is design. It is not.
Of course, what is elegant is subjective. But to me, the CLS and the CL series cars are the epitome of elegant car design. As is the Rover 75. This is the reason that I still own/drive my Rovers and not a CLS. I agonise over this almost every day as I really want to get an original series CLS whilst they are still available in well looked after, low mileage, state but I am also reluctant to get rid of a 75 and my self-imposed limit is five cars. |

I like the style of the new MG E-Motion ev. and then there's the, is it, 350 miles on a single charge? something like that.
0-60 in 4 seconds (wonder what the stopping distance is though?). I'm seriously considering selling my hi-fi to get one on the day of release

I also like the look of the MG E-Motion - and at 350 miles a charge (a lot less in the real world I'm thinking!) it almost beats my ZT for range.
I remember back in the 70's and 80's as a kid, I could identify most cars by body shape, they were pretty distinctive, but now I have to check the badge before I can identify a lot of cars - especially smaller cars which seem to be becoming more generic. I still prefer the MG Z car (and TF) designs to most newer cars, as does my 18year old son. My ZT interior still gets good comments. |

Did not know that the Rover 75 was supposed to be the ‘jack Of all trades’? I thought it was supposed to be a very relaxing 5 seat saloon? Perhaps I am wrong?
