Rear Backrest Removal issues

Hi,

i need to remove the the rear backrest on my MgZT.

Water is coming in to such an extent that it is flowing under the rear seat cushion and at the same time both rear seat cushion and backrest are waterlogged.

Water has progressed under carpet so its a nightmare situation.

I have removed the rear seat cushion but am having major problems removing the backrest. The backrest is a the fold down type.

Any assistance please i just cant seem to release/ unhook the backrest?

Fold it completely flat to the floor, then lift either corner from the clips.

I had problems removing this as well. It might help to brush a little grease around the hinges (in the photos above), fold seat up and down a few times to lubricate, and then fold seat flat as previously said, and pull up at the hinge, one side at a time. Be persistent, you'll get there!
If you end up having to break the white plastic hinge inserts, I think these are still available for a couple of quid each from Rimmers etc.

Sorry Don't want to Hi Jack a thread, but I have a question that is related to this thread; first I just spent ages working out how to remove the backrest, I found it easier to fold it forward, remove the headrests so it goes down easier (or move front seats fully forward) then once flat, wiggle it around and pull upwards gently, it does come out.

Now for my question whilst you seat experts are around I have took out the folding seat...but fitting a non folder back in... anyone got any pictures of the fittings? especially the top brackets it clips on to

Thanks for all your replies however, i may not have explained properly.

Basically I cannot get the Backrest down i may take a picture of it and post it here but i think i am going to have to try and remove all the trim from the boot and see if i can get to the hinge on the pillar that the backrest fits in to.

If any of you have had this problem and managed to fix it without taking out the trim from the boot please let me know how you achieved it.

If yours does not have the buttons on the top of the back seat look below it and you should have a couple of tapes you need to pull down to unlock it.

This is what the tapes look like Mine are normally in the boot, but if yours has these they may be hidden somewhere under the seat.
Remember there is one at each side.

Mine has the same problem, and I found a thread on the cause and solution to the problem a long time ago, may not have been this forum, but googling may find it. My buttons have been pushed in and stuck down. The problem is that the release link rods under the buttons have slipped off the release levers lower down, and got jammed next to them. The recommended method to release them is to get a long, thin screwdriver or similar, remove the trim rings around the buttons, and slide the screwdriver down between fabric and button to push the release levers down. When I tried this, the vinyl fake leather started to split, so I gave up. (Only the seat facings are leather on a connoisseur). The thread then goes on to say how to make alterations to the mechanism so that the mis-design/mis-manufacturing fault is rectified. Let me know if you succeed, and what you used.
