I used to own a Humber Sceptre mk3, which looked exactly like that. The Humber was the posh version, I loved it.
Walnut dash, overdrive, nice to drive. The only problem I ever had with it was the bottom of the petrol tank rusted like a pepper pot, holes appeared everywhere.

I loved it,

5k is way too much in my opinion.

I worked on one as a foreigner (meaning a cash on the side job) when I was an apprentice in 1981. It had holed a piston, which I duly changed.

If memory serves, the one I did had a single stromberg carb. These were like a SU carb but had a neoprene diaphram to seal the piston/ jet assembly. The diaphram was prone to splitting causing poor or non running. It was very easy to check and change. However as has been said it is probably a vac pipe, servo air leak or inlet gasket issue.

I would love a hunter but the price seems way off to me.

You say it’s “hunting a bit”

It’s supposed to do that it’s a Hunter.

Agree with others it’s way too steep in price.

Nice cars in there day especially the Sceptre.

my dad had a 1725 Estate. Managed a 12ft fiberglass boat on the roof and a 4/5 birth caravan on the back from London to Loch Earn, about 460 miles with only fuel stops.
5k is very steep, for that it would need to be mint.

I don't recall him saying anything bad about it.

Of course not, you're no longer 10 .

That car so reminds me of my first ever car. A MK II Cortina 1600GT. It leaked oil from every part of the engine, left a massive blue smoke screen all around the car when sitting at traffic lights, and was riddled with rust from back to front.

I loved it though, as it had a nice set of dials on the dashboard and a rev counter (which didn't work).

Compared to equivalent Fords they're cheap , a Holbay engine one would be quite a find , very under rated car

£5k for a munter - do yourself a favour and buy a Reliant Scimitar.

Got to be the best bang for buck when your looking at classic cars.
