OK, so I had a look around at Aliexpress and "stumbled" upon the camera below:
  I would only have to drill a little hole behind the number plate and seal that up and I am good to go. Agreed... a bit more expensive (€ 22) than your camera/solution but worth it since no one can mistakenly grab the camera when trying to open the boot  Thanks for your invaluable input! I will let you know how things work out
