Smile Cold air from vents (one side)

Hi everyone

This is my first post. I got myself a 2004 75 estate 1.8 a couple of months ago for a song. It's a labour of love - so far i have put in a new radiator, new timing belt, shock absorber, and new discs and pads all round. It is also about to get the alloys redone and into the paintshop for scuff removal. I am determined to keep this 75 on the road.

I am well aware of gasket issues but mine seems ok (touch wood). However, i have noticed that the air coming into the cabin in the pasenger side is cool but driver side is ok (both are at same temp setting). My coolant level is fine.

Any ideas?

Cheers!!!

Hello Allan and

What you describe is well known on the forum. It's most likely to be a partially blocked heater matrix. This happens when previous owners add cooling system leak sealing gunges and they block the fine passages in the matrix, thinking they are a leak. The worst by far is K-seal which is almost impossible to remove. I understand it leaves a residue of bright tiny flakes in the expansion tank.

The other possibility is an air lock. This can be removed by bleeding the system properly as described here by MG Rover. Did you do this when you changed the radiator?

Simon
