Default Fuel Guage Inoperative, Help Please.

Rover 75 auto saloon v6 connoisseur se 52 plate petrol
Please could you help me your advise would be greatly recevied
The fuel gauge rises about one millemeter with the ignition on and running but thats is all with a full tank of fuel. Ive just joined your site which is great but all so carried out a cluster test as found on you forum and the fuel gauge works fine ive removed the plug from the sender unit and earthed out the gray/black and green and black but the gauge did not move ive had the sender unit out and the float/wires look ok allso worked the float up and down but still no movement on gauge would you recomend earthing these wires out directly behind the cluster or do the wires from the sender unit run through the fuse box in anyway or the center audio/tv/sat nav unit or is there a joint block under the carpet any were. Regards Keith PS will you email me or will this be posted on the site sorry im new to this site which is great

Hi Keith,

Welcome to the forums and club,

sorry all i can suggest is try doing a battery off reset ( disconnect the battery off for 20 mins) Remember to have any radio codes at hand or if you have Sat Nav that you will need to shut it down correctly.

Not sure if the Same with the V6 Bri, anybody know?
Fuel Sender/s sounds about right though.

On EPC there is a seperate Fuel Sender for V6. (Next to Fuel Pump)
Part No: XNB000030 From Serial No: 225076 Sender Unit - Fuel Tank £69.20 + VAT
Part No: WFX101160 To: Serial No: 220575 Sender Unit - Fuel Tank £200.57 + VAT

I really hope yours is the Later Car Model!

Talking Fuel gauge inoprative

Thanks boys ive got a new sender unit coming before i remove the carpets to trace these wires right through the system. I would of thought by earthing out the sender unit wires would of done the job. so am i right in thinking if the cluster test works the fuel gauge as it did the cluster is ok and if a new sender is fitted then the fault lies in the wiring under the carpet but does any one know if these wires run through the fuse box kind Regards Keith

I think there are two sensors, one attached to the filter unit in the left side of the fuel tank and one attached to the fuel pump unit in the right, the guage uses the input from both.
One of the dash diagnostic checks can test them.
