Could be .
But it could also be your injectors leaking.
Or at that mileage the HP pump itself (or regulator) could be dowqn on Pressure.

T4 diagnostics will tell you what the cranking pressure is, otherwise you're playing in the dark

My cars only got 80k miles on it, is it typical for injectors to fail at that mileage?

I am replacing the Itp as it's not working so hope that cures it

I've seen injectors fail from 60k upwards to 160k over the years.
Depends on fuel Brand possibly and how regularly the filter has been changed.

As wear takes place of the pump pigtail spirals the O/P pressure reduces for a given RPM so just because the pump is running doesn't mean it's producing the required pressure the HP pump needs.

Again pressure measurement is required for diagnosis (T4 or similar) otherwise it becomes a guessing game of what to replace.

Hi Jules

Thank you for the above message.

I will replace the in tank pump at the weekend and see how that goes, the ubp seems a bit noisey but have been told it's possibly because it's taking the strain of running in its own

Fantastic picture Jules, I'd often wondered what the inside of a UBP looks like.
Thank you for sharing that.

Not typical but not unknown either. Injectors can last well over 300k miles.

Maybe miss-fueling a car can take years off the service life of the injectors and account for early failures?

Unless you have owned the car from new you can't be sure that it hasn't been miss-fueled in the past.

I believe the cheap copy pumps (most have black tops) are nothing like this design inside and perhaps why they are all noisier than the OEM
