Default TF question, sorry...

My TF’s alarm is going off in the middle of the night. I’m discussing this on dedicated forums, and it looks most likely from the limited testing I’ve done that micro-switches in the doors or bonnet are responsible.

My question is… if I get a T4 put on it, will it identify which switch is the culprit, do you know?

Thanks

have you tried locking it with the key instead of the fob?

Sorry, yes, that's what I meant by "testing".

It still happens when I lock it that way.

T4 will identify switch functionality, but its basically an on and off sort of check, and cant distinguish between slight connectivity or shorting.

Take a close look at the N/S wiring harness at the rear engine bay boot lid hinge area, I have seen a frayed or broken wire here in the past due to the years of use.

I don't know enough about the TF to know if it has motion sensors, so this may be completely irrelevant.
My last Merc had the same problem, which the auto electrician couldn't sort and was baffled why it only went off at night.

Turned out (eventually) that a spider was crawling across the sensor at night and setting off the alarm. Quick squirt with insect killer and all sorted.

Ah right. I thought maybe the car recorded alarm triggering or something. Clutching at straws!

Yes, I know about that one too, though haven't checked it yet (vile weather here). I know my old M3 had that problem years ago, but I think that stopped the spoiler stop light array working or something... can't remember.

Mine only has 14000 miles on it, so I'm thinking maybe the boot hasn't had that much use

Yes it has - and I even found the spider! But it you lock it with the key (rather than remote) the motion sensors are disabled... and it still does it

T4 does identify and record the alarm triggers in the alarm and security diagnostics.

As rightly said when locked with the key it disables the interior motion sensor. This leaves you with the door switches, bonnet switch and boot. Most likely will be a broken boot loom wire shorting and causing it to go off. You could always try process of elimination and unplug one at a time and see what happens.
