Default Nissan

Hi, just the sort of news I didn’t want to hear, the new x trail will not be built here. I wonder what’s behind that decision?

Grim news indeed.
Joins the recent news that Barclays is moving €170bn to Dublin - not an insignificant amount.

Falling diesel sale will be a reason and according to sky news shouldn’t have any effect on jobs. Juke and the leaf amongst others will still be built there.

Nissan have a history of announcing things like this, it helps to put pressure on the government.

Remember the one a few years ago where they threatened t move to India?

Oh good grief - he’s at it again

Of course the decision could only be one thing

Nothing to do with the fact that across the board - diesel car sales are down 22% and car sales in 2018 totalled only circa 300,000 units whereas sales in 2016 were circa 460,000.

It couldn’t POSSIBLY be the simple fact that with the debacle re the taxation of oil burners causing them to fall out of favour PLUS the fact that many people like me are hanging fire to see what electric vehicles are developed and launched?

The X Trail increasingly looks like a vehicle that is losing its market.

But I doubt that these facts figure in some people’s reasoning.....

I wonder how the Nissan,Renault, Mitsubishi alliance will fare now that Ghosn has gone!

I read the Nissan NV200 diesel van is to be discontinued some time this year with only the BEV model of that still being manufactured.

I suspect the desire to negotiate a strong incentives package after a certain event.

There is dramatic re-alignment going on by manufacturers. Nissans decision is a wise one given how the X Trail as a unit, despite it being a new model, was designed for a world that is increasingly rejecting such vehicles.

Regardless of WHERE it is built, if people are hesitant re buying such vehicles - it makes eminent sence to take a bit of time to see how the market develops.

I would have thought members of THIS club in particular would be savvy enough to appreciate the need for a car manufacturer to build what people want to buy, regardless of the high quality of the product.

Edit - last para not aimed at you in any way Lancpudn

perhaps to do with all new Renault Trafic Electric van being built there, and the subsequent investment in the area for production of batteries for it?

But just in case it has anything to do with the subject you are so desperately trying to bring up I went to the shops and got some things in. I threw out all of my power tools - no point keeping them since there will be no electric to charge or power them after the sky falls in. All the spare parts for the car went to the skip. I held on to the hand tools just in case I needed to make a shelter in the forthcoming.

first - outside my shed

now nicely laid out where my power tools used to sit.

we're doomed, doomed I tells ya!
