Our neighbours were the same, they went on a skiing holiday in Italy and returned the day before Italy was locked down. No checks at the airport on there return and 5 days later he was in a bad way for several weeks. All OK now but they were never tested.

Would it reduce the total number of deaths in the time taken to develop a vaccine? I can't predict the future, but I doubt it would have that much of an effect.

You can run numbers around for years without generating any meaningful answers, with stuff like this it's far better to be qualitative than quantitative;
Did the NHS get overwhelmed? No. (So therefore we've already done better than Italy)

We (the developed Western world as a whole) seem to have forgotten that this is just nature's way of keeping population in check, and while every death is a tragedy, it's inevitable for us all.

I'm more inclined to agree with the opinion of a lady scientist I was watching on TV on Sunday evening.She said this is a result of mans disrespect of animals.And in the case of China you don't have to dig very deep to uncover the appauling cruelty and lack of respect they have for all animals.Wet markets have no place in the civilised world.

No going to, from or around Leicester for a while.

With a bit of luck they may throw the key away.

I'm not too sure Mick. Might be a knell-bell a-ringin' somewhere. Other than that, I'm sure I have no idea what you mean. It's surprising though just how many lives a chap has under the most investigative conditions one could imagine. Hey Ho.

You've just exposed my oblique reference to forbidden territory that I was sure would not be penetrated, if you get my drift.

Unfortunately Gary, the two agencies responsible for those figures do not meet normal requirements for veracity. HM GOV and BBC are not famous for accuracy, truth, non-bias and the whole truth and nothing but.

Why are they stuck on the last 5 years, what about 6 years or 10 to give a more representative sample. Perhaps the famous jockey stick phenomenon, present what we want them to see? On the other hand, given that the UK population has increased significantly in the last 10 years or so the death count is probably not relevant when comparing against previous years ?
