Replacing 1.8 Turbo engine with 2.0 Litre Diesel engine.
Hi everyone, can anyone tell me the problems involved if I replaced a 1.8 Turbo engine with a 2.0 litre Diesel engine on a Rover 75 Club Tourer. The 2.0 litre would come from a Rover 75 Club Saloon. Would it be possible to start with and who do I have to tell about the engine change. Regards Ken

Oh it's possible, but why you'd want to go through the hassle of it will be beyond many people including myself.
Quickest and easiest way would be to chop your tourer and the donor in half at the b pillar, and weld the tourer back half to the donor front. If you want to do it properly you'd want the full wiring loom, ecu, front suspension, engine, gearbox, exhaust, fuel tank, pumps and no doubt a plethora of other bits. Then you'd have to completely strip your car and install everything you've just removed from the donor. An incomprehensible task when you can get nice tourer diesels for £1500 If you go through with it, best of luck

And I've thought of even more.
It would make for an interesting HowTo though. TC |

Don't do it
It is of course eminently possible, I even considered this myself at one stage. So to do it you would need to......... Change the fuel tank and lines, all of the suspension, the entire wiring loom, obviously the engine, gearbox, and exhaust. Then comes the fun part, you invite me down to the most southerly part of the UK I have only visited once before when I was eight, I reset the diesel ECM, and the IPK to a virgin state, change your ZCS coding to reflect the new engine type and reprogramme your car. I then after consuming some fish and chips, load up my car with the 1800T you've removed from your car and head north again. Definitely doable, but I would stick with the 1800T, so much more civilised than a diesel in any case Brian |
